China's Energy Leap: Locally-Manufactured Gas Turbine Unveiled
In a significant milestone for China's energy sector, the country has commissioned a power plant utilizing an advanced gas turbine, marking the first time such technology is locally manufactured. This development comes at a crucial time when the world grapples with a global shortage of equipment, and China aims to reduce its reliance on imported technology.
The Anji Power Plant, a testament to China's engineering prowess, houses two turbines, each boasting a formidable capacity of approximately 400 megawatts. The turbines were designed by GE Vernova Inc., a renowned US energy equipment manufacturer, in collaboration with China's state-owned Harbin Electric Corp. This partnership led to the establishment of a joint venture in 2019, with the ambitious goal of producing these turbines using local components and delivering a dozen units annually.
