Fine Dining at Disneyland Just Got Even Fancier – But Is It Worth the Splurge?
Disneyland’s most upscale restaurant, Napa Rose, is reopening its doors after a multi-month renovation, and trust us, it’s not your average theme park dining experience. But here’s where it gets controversial: Is a high-end meal worth the price tag when you’re surrounded by Mickey Mouse and roller coasters? We got an exclusive sneak peek at the reimagined space and menu, and let’s just say, it’s an experience that might just change your mind about theme park cuisine.
Located within the luxurious Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa, Napa Rose has long been celebrated for its seasonally inspired menu and impressive wine collection. Now, as it marks its 25th anniversary, the restaurant is unveiling a fresh take on fine dining that’s both elegant and approachable. And this is the part most people miss: It’s not just about the food; it’s about creating a memorable experience that feels refined yet welcoming, even for those new to the world of haute cuisine.
During a media preview hosted by Disney, we had the chance to explore the renovated space and sample the updated menu, curated by Chef Andrew Sutton and Executive Chef Clint Chin. The restaurant officially reopens on February 6, 2026, but we’re here to give you a first look at what’s in store.
A Warm Welcome to Fine Dining
Nicholas Hockman, the general manager of the Grand Californian, shared an insight that perfectly captures the essence of Napa Rose. He explained that for many guests, this restaurant is their first foray into fine dining. The goal? To make it feel sophisticated yet unintimidating. And let me tell you, they’ve nailed it. From the moment you step inside, the warm ambiance and attentive Cast Members put you at ease. It’s fine dining without the pretension.
Speaking of Cast Members, here’s a fun fact: 100% of the Napa Rose team returned after its nine-month closure, a testament to their passion for this unique dining experience. Our server, Wendy, who’s been with the restaurant since its opening 25 years ago, was the epitome of warmth and expertise. Her wine pairings elevated each dish, and her knowledge of the menu was unparalleled. If you visit, request her table—you won’t regret it.
A Design Inspired by California’s Beauty
The renovation draws inspiration from Northern California’s Arts and Crafts movement, with nods to the Napa Valley’s colors and textures. The main dining room features a stunning Mission Vine-inspired chandelier, wooden columns reminiscent of wine barrels, and a mural celebrating the region’s vineyards. Warm woods, cork, stone, and leather create an inviting atmosphere that’s both elegant and cozy.
For a truly special experience, the Chef’s Counter offers a front-row view of the kitchen, where you can watch the culinary magic unfold. The newly expanded bar and lounge area, complete with a fireplace and outdoor patio, is perfect for a more casual yet still upscale evening. And if you’re celebrating something special, the private dining room, designed to resemble a wine cellar, accommodates up to 16 guests.
A Menu That Tells a Story
The refreshed menu is a celebration of California’s seasonal bounty, with each dish thoughtfully crafted to highlight local ingredients. We started with the Signature Mushroom Cappuccino, a savory amuse-bouche that was surprisingly my favorite bite of the evening. The foam and broth were rich and flavorful, setting the tone for what was to come.
Highlights included the Sauteéd Seasonal Fish with lobster toast and lemon bubble—light, flavorful, and absolutely divine. The American Wagyu N.Y., thinly sliced and paired with grape mustardo, was a masterpiece of harmony. And the Sorpesine Pasta, with its creamy California Crab broth and Pacific Uni, was a standout, perfectly complemented by a crisp Chardonnay.
But here’s where it gets controversial: The entrées. We tried the Sustainable Fish of the Day (Swordfish) and the Roasted Boneless Colorado Rack of Lamb. Both were exceptional, but the swordfish, in particular, won over even my fish-averse boyfriend. He declared it one of the best things he’s ever eaten. Is it worth the price? For a special occasion, absolutely.
Dessert was a showstopper: the Elevated Valhrona Chocolate Bar with hazelnut praline. Think of it as the fine dining equivalent of a candy bar—indulgent, creative, and utterly delicious. It’s a dessert I’d gladly return for.
Is Napa Rose Worth the Splurge?
Chef Andrew Sutton summed it up best: “Reopening Napa Rose feels deeply personal. We’ve evolved while staying true to our roots, focusing on craftsmanship, seasonality, and a broader international perspective.” The result is a dining experience that’s not just a meal, but a journey.
Yes, it’s pricey. But for a special occasion or a once-in-a-lifetime splurge, Napa Rose delivers an unforgettable experience. The question is: Would you trade a day of park snacks for a night here? Let us know in the comments—we’d love to hear your thoughts!
