Pebble Smartwatch Reboot & Index Ring: Hands-On Review at CES 2026 (2026)

The Pebble smartwatch reboot is here, and it's looking great, but the Index ring? That's the real game-changer. After getting a sneak peek at CES 2026, I'm genuinely excited about the future of Pebble, but it's the Index ring that has truly captured my attention. Let's dive in!

The resurgence of Pebble, fueled by Google's open-sourcing of PebbleOS, is fantastic news for long-time fans. Finally, we have new Pebble devices on the market, with the "Pebble 2 Duo" offering a solid continuation of the concept we last saw a decade ago.

  • Hands-on: The Pebble 2 Duo is a reboot ready to pick up where it left off

But the Pebble Time 2 is the device that really got everyone's hearts racing. And the hardware? It delivers! The metal chassis, with its subtle splashes of blue or red (or classic black), just feels premium. It might be a small watch by today's standards, but that's a plus in my book. The metal buttons and the glass over the screen feel especially nice compared to the Duo.

Then there's the Pebble Round 2, which proves how ahead of its time the original was. The first Pebble Time Round was a stunning smartwatch with its thin metal body. However, it had its compromises, like the battery life and the large bezel around the display.

The new model solves all of that with much better battery life and an edge-to-edge display. The new design looks great, and the super-thin design feels futuristic compared to modern smartwatches. The new face design doesn’t quite have the same charm, but it's a major improvement.

But here's where it gets controversial... While I'm excited about the Pebble Time 2, what truly has me buzzing is the Pebble Index ring.

This smart ring is designed for one purpose: capturing your thoughts. With a simple click of its tactile button, a microphone activates and sends data to the Pebble app on your phone. This means you can quickly jot down ideas without unlocking your phone or opening an app. Just click the button on your finger, and you're good to go.

The Pebble Index—which I was told will support Google Keep—just makes so much sense as a daily wearable. And the hardware makes it viable. The Index is only slightly thicker than my wedding ring, and the only part that sticks out is the button. While trying out the sizing kit, I found myself between two sizes, but it's close enough. However, the size 13 limit is a deal-breaker for some. I don’t have small hands, but I'd argue many people will need a bigger size to feel comfortable on an index finger.

And this is the part most people miss... The style is also a matter of personal taste. The black-on-black model is the only one I'm interested in, partly because it matches my wedding ring. The gold model with its blue accent and the silver model with its white accent aren’t my cup of tea. From a material perspective, not having a matching color makes sense, since it's almost impossible to match the color of a glossy material with one that's more like rubber.

That said, I'm still incredibly excited for the Index. I don't think a Pebble smartwatch will ever fully replace my Pixel Watch, but the Index is a wearable I can see myself adding to my daily carry.

The entire Pebble lineup—Time 2, Round 2, and Index—are available for pre-order at repebble.com and shipping over the coming months.
