Supercars Drivers' Association: Meet the New Members (2026)

The world of Supercars has seen a significant shift with the recent changes to its drivers' association, a body established just a year ago. What's intriguing is the complete turnover of membership, with none of the original members remaining.

The association, formed in 2023, initially comprised Mostert, Waters, Shane van Gisbergen, and Will Davison. However, with van Gisbergen's departure for NASCAR and Davison's retirement, the association has undergone a complete transformation.

Enter Thomas Randle from Tickford Racing and Cooper Murray from Erebus Motorsport, who have taken the places of Mostert and Waters. Andre Heimgartner, who replaced van Gisbergen, has retained his position, bringing a mix of experience and fresh perspectives to the group, as highlighted by Motorsport Australia's driving standards advisor, Craig Baird.

"A guy like Andre, who's been around for a while, provides stability. Thomas, with his articulate nature, brings a unique voice to the table. And then you have Cooper, a young talent, who can offer a different perspective on the sport's future," Baird explained.

The association's primary focus is on regulations, acting as a bridge between drivers, Supercars, and officials. Its formation was a response to issues at the 2022 Gold Coast 500, highlighting the need for better communication and understanding of track limits and tyre management.

"It's about creating an environment where drivers feel heard and respected. We want to ensure that their voices are considered when it comes to shaping the sport's future," Baird added.

One thing that immediately stands out to me is the association's emphasis on regulations. In my opinion, this shows a mature approach to the sport, recognizing that while commercial matters are important, the integrity of the sport and the safety of the drivers should always come first.

What many people don't realize is that these associations play a crucial role in shaping the sport's future. They provide a platform for drivers to have a say in the rules and regulations, ensuring that the sport remains fair, exciting, and, most importantly, safe.

As we move forward, it will be interesting to see how this new trio of Randle, Murray, and Heimgartner shapes the association's agenda. With their diverse experiences and perspectives, they have the potential to bring about significant changes and improvements to the sport.

So, while the membership has changed, the association's purpose remains steadfast, and I, for one, am excited to see what the future holds for this dynamic group.
